Level 2 Certificate Youth Work Practice

The Level 2 Certificate Youth Work Practice is an introductory qualification that prepares learners to begin working with young people in a range of youth work settings.

The Level 2 Certificate Youth Work Practice help develop the knowledge and skills required to competently work towards, or carry out, the role of an Assistant Youth Support Worker.

Topics you will learn include:

 

  • Key purpose, principles, and values of youth work.

  • Where youth work takes place.

  • How to safeguard young people in youth work.

  • How young people develop.

  • The role of youth work in supporting young people’s development to adulthood.

  • Engaging and communicating with young people.

  • Strategies for assisting with effective group work.

  • How to recognise conflict and challenging behaviour by young people.

  • How to assist with work-based practice under supervision.

  • How to reflect on your practice.

 

There is a requirement that across the programme learners will undertake 40 hours of work experience in a youth work environment paid or unpaid throughout their learning journey.

 

Progression

 

The Level 2 Award and the Level 2 Certificate are the first step on a qualification ladder for learners who want to become JNC qualified Youth Support Workers.

 

Learners may consider progressing onto the Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in Youth Work Practice.
